All of the different kinds of solar and other alternative fuel systems will eventually work their bugs out and are all needed to solve the problem. Forget the government working in a quick and meaningfully manner to address the issue directly.
As always, it is incumbent on the individual American and home or business owner to take control. They can first conserve energy using all the new technology and projects that reduce the need for energy in the home and business. It will then take a pro-active stance to move to the next step, produce power their own renewable energy.
Personally after doing all we could to conserve energy in planning and building a new home in Central California the decision was made to go with solar photovoltaic as wind is not practical for the site. It was an economic decision which we know is not always the same for everyone. We had a portion of our retirement money sitting in a CD earning 3 or 4 percent interest. We took it and installed solar pool, hot water and electric systems in the new home.
Our biggest utility bill is now is the water bill. The return on the investment is much higher than the CD and gets better each time utility rates rise. It is an on-grid system but little is paid to the power company for gas or electric. We enjoy the pool much later each season.
Not everyone can do this we understand. But more lenders are become solar friendly especially because they know this home improvement will lower monthly utility bills. Also because solar is modular a starter smaller system can be upgraded later. The least costly is a solar domestic hot water heater. There is a wealth of information and do-it-your-self solar projects in magazines and Internet related to this. Don’t want a pat on the back or the approval of the global warming group; just want a lower utility bill.
