Dear Presidential Candidate
How would you and your running mate like to win the election of 2008? You can, by taking the right direction on one major issue. It is a concern that affects the US economy, national security, foreign policy, globalization, the wars in the Middle East and a worsening geopolitical situation. It attacks climate change, the federal budget and reversing the balance of trade. At home it solves many economic, social and political problems.
Here is the key to wining in November. You and your running mate’s stance on renewable energy policy and energy independence must be pursued with an all out grand-scale program. It will take a governmental, public and private partnership of colossal dimensions historically similar to but bigger than the Panama Canal, the New Deal, Manhattan Project, D-Day Invasion, the space program and Homeland security War on Terrorism after 9/11.
Pursuing this issue with strong leadership and showing that it is financially and technically possible will go a long way in solidifying your victory. You must have appropriate stances on all the other important issues but relegating renewable energy as a side issue is counter productive. The candidate must have a solid vision for renewable energy and the guts to tackle the special interest that will fight against it. Come up with a workable plan or the voters will look elsewhere. They now see a current vacuum of leadership about this and politics as usual is not going to work this time.
Every segment of the renewable energy industry is brimming with new ideas, science and technology that hold promise. There is no silver bullet to hit this illusive target but a combination of systems could do it. European countries are dramatically showing success in this arena. The voters perceive the recent announcements of large corporate renewable energy startup programs as small scale public relations ploys and stop-gap agendas to assuage the public’s concern for climate change.
Also congress will start mandating they move in the direction of energy independence. The energy industry does not want large windfall profit taxes on the polluting energy they make billions on. Corporate stakeholders are curious where their profits are going to come from as conventional sources of energy become less available and economically attractive. Renewable energy options have been researched and studied to death by universities, state and federal governments and other groups. The voters want true change and real reform and they do not want to wait for decades for it to happen.
To capture the Presidency in 2008 it would be wise for candidates to listen and take action to reflect the views above. There are from both parties, moderates, Independents and others that are deeply troubled about this country’s energy future. Internet movements like UNITY08.COM are becoming a significant force in delineating this concern. Check out some people that are going all for solar and renewable energy at www.solarliving.org Bringing about a solution to the energy crisis can be done within the current structure of our democratic republic and still uphold the spirit and law of the Constitution.
This growing constituency is collaborating with other groups to form critical alliances. They are seeking a strong and decisive leader in a President that can work with congress, stay in line with the Supreme Court while holding to the will of the people. The result would be an administration whose energy policies will make the world freer, safer and more prosperous.
Now it is up to each candidate to evaluate their stance on this issue. Put the other controversial questions in this campaign in perspective, prioritize and weigh renewable energy as an important and vital first step in solving most of the other problems. Good luck.

Don't Wait for the Government to Help
All of the different kinds of solar and other alternative fuel systems will eventually work their bugs out and are all needed to solve the problem. Forget the government working in a quick and meaningfully manner to address the issue directly.
As always, it is incumbent on the individual American and home or business owner to take control. They can first conserve energy using all the new technology and projects that reduce the need for energy in the home and business. It will then take a pro-active stance to move to the next step, produce power their own renewable energy.
Personally after doing all we could to conserve energy in planning and building a new home in Central California the decision was made to go with solar photovoltaic as wind is not practical for the site. It was an economic decision which we know is not always the same for everyone. We had a portion of our retirement money sitting in a CD earning 3 or 4 percent interest. We took it and installed solar pool, hot water and electric systems in the new home.
Our biggest utility bill is now is the water bill. The return on the investment is much higher than the CD and gets better each time utility rates rise. It is an on-grid system but little is paid to the power company for gas or electric. We enjoy the pool much later each season.
Not everyone can do this we understand. But more lenders are become solar friendly especially because they know this home improvement will lower monthly utility bills. Also because solar is modular a starter smaller system can be upgraded later. The least costly is a solar domestic hot water heater. There is a wealth of information and do-it-your-self solar projects in magazines and Internet related to this. Don’t want a pat on the back or the approval of the global warming group; just want a lower utility bill.

Going Solar
Hi There Everyone
The purpose of this blog is to promote solar energy. Renewable energy is more and more in the mainstream today as we become concerned with the cost of energy, the geopolitical implications and the fact that we all need to conserve more energy. Also it will provide information on how people can become aware of solar and its application on any level in their daily lives. Other topic areas will be added regading this subject as they become relevant an other express interest in this blog heading that way. Hope to hear from you all with your solar comments, ideas, applications and maybe some questions. Thanks
